Why data fabric is essential in accelerating time to value through analytics insight

by | Aug 30, 2022

Mark Johnson, our Executive Vice President and editorial board chair for CDO Magazine, sat down with some of the best and brightest in the data world for the CDO Data Summit — including:

  • Baz Khauti, President at Modak USA
  • Richie Bachala, Principal, Data Engineering at Yugabyte
  • Ravi Shankar, SVP and Chief Marketing Officer at Denodo
  • Saj Patel, VP of Data Solutions at Fusion Alliance

The main topic: data fabric. But there was so much more covered than that.

For example, what is the real difference between data fabric and data mesh?

Their answer:

Data fabric:  Think of that as a net that is cast across your data sets. Where you’re building a virtual view of what your data landscape is. A technology integration path.

Data mesh: IT is not a technology path; instead, it is a service/methodology of how you build data products which then get consumed by various analytical tools. Data mesh is more about implementing what the fabric is providing.

Both are trying to address a core issue to try and integrate data across organizations and business users.

This panel addresses critical questions about data in today’s world, including:

  • What about the fabric of data? Is it virtual or physical, or both?
  • How do we get value out of our data?
  • Do we take a connect or collect approach?
  • How comprehensive do we need our data approach to be?
  • Are you optimizing for agility or for flexibility?
  • How do you deliver unified data?
  • Is your organization in agreement with what they are looking for out of their data?
  • What AI/ML techniques do we want to employ, if any?

Mark walks through these difficult data questions with these data experts across fields to help you navigate your own data journey. Watch the full panel here.
